About us
As Two Alaskan Retirees moving from one extreme to another, Ronnie and Cal started RC Coffee as the next chapter in their lives.
Situated in peaceful Honaunau Hawaii, offering beautiful views of the Place of Refuge and Kealakekua Bay. We work daily to grow our 100% Kona coffee. The farm sits at 1400 feet elevation where the rich volcanic soil produces some of the best coffee in the world. The farm sits on 6.5 acres in the Kona district which covers 20 miles long and 2 miles wide on the west coast of the island.
Our Mission: to take the farm back to a healthy thriving condition and grow coffee for everyday consumption. With new coffee growing challenges we made the decision to re-landscape and replant new coffee trees, adding new varieties which will be included in our Estate coffee in coming years.
We also grow a variety of local hawaiian fruits and plants including mamaki tea! These plants contribute to the diverse ecosystem and help our farm achieve the excellence we are looking for.

The Coffee
Growing Kona coffee is no easy task. RC Coffee manages 4500 coffee plants, a large amount for a independent farm. Coffee seasons begins with the first blooms in the first quarter of the year. Eight months later, the coffee is mature and ready to be picked. Picking can start as early as July and will continue all the way through January!
The process of turning the picked coffee into a bag of coffee is extensive. First the picked coffee needs to be pulped a process that removed the outer layer of the coffee fruit. These pulped coffee beans are then stored in vats and allowed to ferment for at least 12 hours. After the fermentation the coffee is rinsed before being dried in the sun. The coffee must be dried to the proper moisture level before process can continue. Once that moisture level is achieved the coffee is then hulled, removing a layer of parchment from the bean. This is now known as green coffee, or unroasted coffee.
The green coffee is then roasted to order, creating the spectacular cup of Kona coffee that RC Coffee is known for. From picking to roasting this process can take 60 days to complete!
